Student housing in Eisenstadt
Two things first, because both are easy to get wrong. The Fachhochschule Burgenland is now called Hochschule Burgenland, University of Applied Sciences. And it has two campuses 70 kilometres apart: business and information technology are in Eisenstadt, energy, environment, health and social work are in Pinkafeld. A hall place next to the Eisenstadt campus costs between 341 and 600 euros a month, everything included.
What a hall place costs
We checked this at the provider itself on 12 September 2026, not taken from a listings portal, and that mattered: one directory said "from 309 euros", while the cheapest place the provider actually offers is 341. All figures below include heating, electricity, internet, the phone line, the TV connection and room cleaning.

All of these are at the ÖJAB house on Campus 2, directly beside the university, with 272 places. The second residence, the Haus der Begegnung of the Diocese of Eisenstadt in the town centre, has 40 places in single and double rooms with shower and WC, two of them step-free. It publishes no price, so we do not name one. It does have one catch worth knowing before you sign: the rooms run from 1 September to 30 June, so the summer is not covered.
The campus is badly connected inside its own market
This is the figure no portal shows, and it is the one that decides where you can live. We measured the transit travel time to the university for every inhabited location in the market, with the live router rather than as the crow flies. Of 3,436 locations, 2,439 carry a value, and the median is 65 minutes.

Read per municipality, only two are under 25 minutes, and the better of the two is not the provincial capital: Kleinhöflein reaches the campus in 18 minutes on median, Eisenstadt itself in 21, Siegendorf in 26. At the other end sit Pöttelsdorf at 105 minutes, Wiesen at 109 and Mörbisch am See at 133. That is a factor of seven inside one small market.
What that means in practice
Three options, and the arithmetic differs sharply between them:
- A hall place on Campus 2
- from 341 euros all-inclusive, and the walk to the lecture hall is measured in minutes, not in transit connections. With 272 places it is also the largest single supply in the market.
- A room in Kleinhöflein or Eisenstadt
- the only two municipalities under 25 minutes. Kleinhöflein is a district of Eisenstadt and reaches the campus faster than the town centre does.
- Anywhere else in the market
- means commuting, and mostly for more than an hour. Before you sign anything outside those two places, check the actual travel time for that address.
The Hochschule Burgenland counts 2,840 degree students and 5,573 people in continuing-education programmes for the winter term 2024/25, across both campuses together. Which of them sit in Eisenstadt is not published separately.
Flatshares: we are honest about this one
A flatshare is a normal way to live as a student, and we cannot serve it here: across all of Austria we currently hold almost no flatshare listings. Rather than show you an empty result list, here is where flatshares are actually found: the ÖH housing exchange, the noticeboards at the university, WG-Gesucht and local groups. We would rather send you away than waste your time.
When to apply
Halls fill from spring for the winter semester, and Eisenstadt has 312 hall places in total across both houses. That is not many. Apply in spring, even if your admission is not final. A place can be declined; a missing place cannot be conjured up in September.
What the location decides here
Three things are worth checking before you sign, and all three we can measure for any address:
- The travel time to the campus
- Not the distance on the map. Between Kleinhöflein and Mörbisch am See lie 18 minutes against 133, and both are in the same market.
- Noise, and where the map is silent
- Eisenstadt is not a designated agglomeration. Only the A3 and the busy federal roads are mapped, and of 3,436 inhabited locations only 11.5 per cent carry a zone. Where nothing is drawn, green means "not surveyed", not "quiet".
- What a flat costs after your studies
- Eisenstadt is not the most expensive address in its own province: for flats Neusiedl am See leads the whole of Burgenland at 2,616 euros per square metre, Eisenstadt comes to 2,180.

- Is my degree course in Eisenstadt or in Pinkafeld?
- Check before you rent anything. Business and information technology are in Eisenstadt; energy and environment, health and social work are in Pinkafeld, which is about 70 kilometres further south and not part of this market at all. A room in Eisenstadt is of no use for a Pinkafeld degree.
- Where can I live and still reach the campus quickly?
- Only two municipalities in the market are under 25 minutes by transit: Kleinhöflein at 18 minutes on median and Eisenstadt itself at 21. Siegendorf follows at 26. Everything else means commuting, and the market median is 65 minutes.
- How many hall places are there?
