History & character
From Alpine Pastures to Independent Community Doren
The history of Doren dates back to around 1000 AD, when the areas on the sunny slopes of the Sulzbergstock were utilized. By around 1300, the first people settled permanently in what is now the Sulz parcel. An administrative body was established as the population grew. In 1844, the desire for an independent community emerged due to disagreements with the local administration in Sulzberg. After several negotiations, Doren was finally recognized as an independent municipality. Today, Doren is a small, quiet community with 1,035 residents, located in the northern part of the Bregenzerwald. The surroundings are characterized by forests, numerous bodies of water, and a picturesque landscape that includes both agricultural land and wooded areas.
