Eichenberg

History & character

From Aichberg to Eichenberg in the Bregenz Forest

Eichenberg was first documented in 1320 as 'Aichberg', referring to the oak forests in the area. Over the course of the Middle Ages, the first individual farms emerged through deforestation. Until 1523, the area belonged to the Montfort lords before being transferred to the Habsburgs. The isolation of the residents shaped life in the community for a long time, which was initially administratively part of Möggers and ecclesiastically assigned to the parish of Bregenz. In 1839, the parish church was built, and Eichenberg gained independence as a parish in 1873. After historical upheavals, including being part of Bavaria from 1805 to 1814 and being incorporated into Bregenz from 1938 to 1946, Eichenberg officially became an independent municipality in 1922. Today, Eichenberg is the largest municipality in the Leiblachtal in terms of area, characterized by its natural location on the slopes of the Pfänder massif, surrounded by forests and a tranquil living atmosphere.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. On the valley floor around Bregenz the southern horizon is low (1 to 8 degrees), but the Pfänder rises in the east: from the city centre it reaches 15.7 degrees and costs morning sun rather than midday sun. On the slopes (Thalbach 17, Fluh up to 25 degrees) and in the south of the market it counts for much more, most of all in Hohenems (29.6 degrees to the south-east) and in Feldkirch-Tisis, where the southern horizon at 22.1 degrees stands above the winter sun of 19.1 degrees.
