History & character
From Albinsvelt to Modern City
Ansfelden was first documented in 788/91 as "Albinsvelt". The name derives from the terms Albinsvelt and Alpunesfeld. From 976, the area belonged to the Duchy of Bavaria and later, since 1156, to the Duchy of Austria. Over the centuries, Ansfelden experienced various changes in rule and was occupied multiple times during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1918, Ansfelden became part of the federal state of Upper Austria. A significant population increase occurred after World War II when a DP camp for Displaced Persons was established in the district of Haid. From the 1950s onwards, Haid developed into a modern satellite town with appropriate infrastructure. In 1988, Ansfelden was granted city status.
Today, Ansfelden is a city municipality with over 18,000 inhabitants, characterized by its proximity to the state capital Linz. The character of the city is marked by a blend of historical substance and modern residential areas. The city offers good connections to Linz and has become a popular place to live in the Linz region.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
