Leonding

History & character

From the First Documentary Mention to Today

Leonding was first mentioned in a document in 1013 as Liutmuntinga and has since developed significantly. Originally rural, the area was part of the Duchy of Austria until the 20th century. The population grew over the centuries, and in 1975, Leonding was elevated to city status. Historical events such as grand hunts in the Kürnberger Forest and military occupations during the Napoleonic Wars shaped the town's history. The establishment of the first municipal administration in 1850 and the connection to the railway network led to further growth. Today, Leonding, with 29,161 residents, is the fourth largest city in Upper Austria, known for its industrial companies and as a green residential area on the outskirts of Linz. The city has become a vibrant part of Austria's second-largest metropolitan area.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
