History & character
From First Mention to Independent Municipality
Puchenau is a municipality in the Urfahr-Umgebung district of Upper Austria, first mentioned in two documents from the years 807 and 827. Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the area became part of the Duchy of Austria in the 12th century. Since 1490, Puchenau has been attributed to the Principality of Austria above the Enns. During the Napoleonic Wars, the town was occupied multiple times but returned to Upper Austria after the conflicts. In 1893, Puchenau was granted the status of an independent municipality after having previously belonged to Ottensheim. Following the annexation of Austria to the German Reich and the subsequent restoration of Upper Austria after 1945, the town experienced stable development.
Today, Puchenau lies on the northern bank of the Danube, just four kilometers west of Linz, offering a quiet residential environment with its location in the upper Mühlviertel. The municipality covers an area of 8.2 km² and is characterized by its natural surroundings, making it an attractive place to live.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
