History & character
From the Danube to the Residential Paradise of Ottensheim
Ottensheim is a market municipality in Upper Austria, recognized as the third oldest market in the state. The name possibly derives from Ritter Otini, who may have built a castle here. The earliest signs of settlement date back to the Neolithic period, while in the Middle Ages, Ottensheim was secured by a protective wall and several gates. In 1228, the town was granted market rights, underscoring its significance as a trading hub along the Danube. Over the centuries, Ottensheim experienced various developments, including destruction by a fire in 1899 and the use of the castle as a refugee shelter after World War II. Today, Ottensheim is known for its recreational areas and has become a popular residential location for families. Its proximity to Linz and strong population growth since the 1990s contribute to the municipality's appeal.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
