History & character
From the Neolithic to Market Town
The history of Gramastetten dates back to 2500 BC, as evidenced by numerous Neolithic finds in the area. The name of the town derives from Grimhard and has been documented in various forms over the centuries. In 1110, the original parish was established, encompassing several surrounding areas. Emperor Maximilian I granted Gramastetten market status in 1518. In the following centuries, the community experienced several fire disasters that destroyed numerous buildings. During World War II, Gramastetten was shelled by American troops, leading to significant destruction. It was not until 2018 that a house chronicle was created to document the town's history, coinciding with the 500th anniversary celebrations.
Today, Gramastetten presents itself as a market town in the upper Mühlviertel, surrounded by picturesque landscapes. Its geographical location at 545 m above sea level and the agricultural land contribute to the community's character. The tranquil surroundings and proximity to nature make Gramastetten an attractive place to live for those who wish to combine rural living with good access to the city of Linz.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
