History & character
From Celtic Settlement to Modern City
The area of present-day Traun has been settled since prehistory, with indications of use by Celtic populations during the Hallstatt and La Tène periods. During the Roman Empire, it was part of the province of Noricum, where Roman roads connected the Danube region with the Alpine areas. In the early Middle Ages, a rural settlement structure developed. For centuries, Traun remained predominantly agricultural, with the Traun River playing an important role for mills and fishing. It was only with industrialization in the 19th century that stronger economic and demographic development began. Today, Traun is a popular residential area with good infrastructure, high quality of life, numerous shopping opportunities, as well as sports and cultural offerings. In recent years, several urban development projects have been realized that shape the cityscape and enhance urban use.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
