History & character
From Agricultural Community to Growth Region
Engerwitzdorf is a municipality in the lower Mühlviertel in Upper Austria that was originally purely agrarian. The place, whose name is derived from the personal name Engilpolt, was first documented in the 12th century. Early settlement is evidenced by archaeological finds from the Stone Age and the listed burial mounds in the Ogsteiner Forest. Over the centuries, Engerwitzdorf belonged to the Duchy of Austria and experienced various historical upheavals, including occupation during the Napoleonic Wars. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich and the restoration of Upper Austria in 1945, the municipality continued to develop. Today, Engerwitzdorf consists of 30 scattered settlements, with only a small part of the population living in the eponymous village. Its proximity to Linz and attractive location have led Engerwitzdorf to become one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Austria, while large parts of the municipality are still characterized by agriculture.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
