History & character
From Riedmark to Modern Settlement
Dornach-Auhof is a historically developed district of the city of Linz, with roots dating back to the Early Bronze Age. Archaeological finds in Furth have uncovered evidence of settlement, including Hocker graves that are around 4000 years old. In the Early Middle Ages, the region was part of the Bavarian settlement and was administered by the Diocese of Passau. The topographical features, such as the old course of the Katzbach, shaped the development of the area. In the 11th or 12th century, the Castle Steyregg was established, managing the territorial domain of the Otakare. Over the centuries, the farmstead Auhof was expanded into a castle, complemented by a chapel and other buildings. However, from the 19th century onwards, decline and loss of significance began, especially after the abolition of the feudal system in 1848. Today, Dornach-Auhof is a quiet statistical district in northern Linz, offering a blend of historical substance and modern residential structures. Its natural location between the foothills of the Mühlviertel granite and gneiss massif and the Danube provides an appealing quality of living.
