History & character
From Haselbach to a Linz District
St. Magdalena, originally mentioned in 1110 as "Haselbach", developed over the centuries into an independent municipality before being incorporated into Linz in 1938. The area was often affected by Danube floods, while the northern villages lie on the foothills of the Mühlviertel. In the 19th century, the population grew, particularly due to the establishment of industries such as the laundry business in Steg. The district underwent significant construction activity in the 1960s, making it a sought-after residential area. The former municipality was divided into several villages, with only Katzbach preserving its original village structure to this day. With the reorganization of the statistical districts in 2014, the new district of Dornach-Auhof was split off from St. Magdalena.
