History & character
From the Settlement of Williheri to Market Town
Wilhering is a market town in Upper Austria, first mentioned in 985 AD. The name derives from "Williheringa," meaning settlement of Williheri. Originally part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the area became part of the Duchy of Austria in the 12th century. The establishment of the Cistercian monastery Wilhering in 1146 significantly influenced the town's development. After a devastating fire in 1733, the monastery church was rebuilt in the Rococo style. In 1979, Wilhering was granted the status of a market town and is now the fifth-largest municipality in the Linz-Land district.
Today, Wilhering is characterized by a tranquil, rural atmosphere shaped by its proximity to the Danube and the adjacent Kürnberger Forest. The municipality features both agricultural land and wooded areas, contributing to its recreational quality. With an area of nearly 30 square kilometers and a population of over 6200 inhabitants, Wilhering is a place that combines tradition with modern living.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
