History & character
From Neolithic Settlement to Modern Residential Area
Froschberg, a district of the Upper Austrian capital Linz, has a long and complex history. The Freinberg plateau is believed to have been settled as early as the Late Neolithic. Remains of fortifications from the late Bronze Age to the Late La Tène period testify to the early significance of this area. The cellar facilities in the Linz sands, which served as wine cellars during Roman times, reflect the economic use of the region. During World War II, these cellars were utilized as air raid shelters and later as a sub-camp of the Linz II concentration camp for munitions production. In 2014, the statistical districts of Froschberg, Freinberg, and Römerberg-Margarethen were merged into the new district of Froschberg.
Today, Froschberg is characterized by a hilly landscape that rises west of Linz's city center. The residential areas of Bauernberg, Freinberg, Froschberg, Margarethen, and Römerberg offer a tranquil living atmosphere amidst a historical backdrop. Proximity to the Danube and good transport connections make Froschberg an attractive place to live.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
