History & character

From Wals to Salzburg's District Maxglan West

Maxglan West, a district of the statutory city of Salzburg, lies on the western outskirts, about 3.5 kilometers from the city center. Originally part of the municipality of Wals, the area was incorporated into Salzburg in 1935. The district includes the Kendlersiedlung in the south, which has merged with the Glansiedlung of Wals-Siezenheim, as well as the parts of Loig and Himmelreich belonging to Salzburg and the landscape area of Pointing. The Kendlersiedlung received its own Catholic parish in 1967, which also serves Wals-Viehhausen. Due to the current joint spatial planning of Salzburg and its surroundings, municipal borders play a subordinate role. Today, Maxglan West is an independently oriented district that strongly trends towards Wals and is isolated from the city by the airport.
