History & character
From Jupindorf to a Thriving Market
Eugendorf, first documented in 736 as Jupindorf, has a long history dating back to the High Middle Ages. The name refers to an old settlement clan whose leader was possibly Juvino or Jubianus. Over the centuries, various noble families, such as the Kalhamer, settled in the region and exercised jurisdiction for over 200 years. The economic boom began with the opening of the Salzkammergut Local Railway in 1891 and the construction of the West Autobahn after 1955, which increased the population from 1,329 in 1855 to over 6,200 today. The municipality has since developed into an important economic hub, with a mix of commercial and residential areas alongside agricultural land.
Today, Eugendorf presents itself as a vibrant market town with around 7,175 residents, offering a peaceful rural atmosphere while being close to the city of Salzburg. The gently rolling landscape and agricultural fields shape the community's image, while modern infrastructure and good connections to the capital ensure a high quality of life.
