Koppl

History & character

From Manor to Modern Municipality

Koppl is a municipality in the Salzburg region, historically known as a manor of the Bishop of Chiemsee. The church in Koppl is mentioned as early as the 13th century and has undergone various changes over the centuries, including its consecration after a fire in 1816. The municipality comprises several localities, including Guggenthal, which was formerly part of the municipality of Gnigl and joined Koppl in 1935. The Salzburg Ring, a racetrack, was opened in 1969 and shapes the community's image. Today, Koppl has around 3718 residents and is situated in a picturesque transitional zone between the Alps and the Salzburg lake district. The diverse landscape and proximity to the state capital of Salzburg make Koppl an attractive place to live for those seeking the tranquility of the countryside combined with the conveniences of the city.
