History & character

From Mesolithic Times to a Modern Community

Elsbethen, first documented in 930 as Campanuaua, has a long history that dates back to prehistoric times. Finds in the Zigeunerloch indicate settlement from the Mesolithic to the La Tène period. The municipality is located in the Flachgau region, adjacent to the capital Salzburg, and offers an attractive landscape with agricultural land and forested areas. The most prominent elevations include the Schwarzenberg, Gurlspitze, and Mühlstein. Today, Elsbethen is home to 5,417 residents who enjoy a quiet environment with good access to the city of Salzburg.
