History & character
From Bronze Age Settlement to Parsch
Parsch, first mentioned in 1122 as 'Porras', has a long history that traces back to Bronze Age settlements. Early archaeological finds indicate human presence at the floodplain of the Gersbach, and the name may have both Roman and Celtic origins. Over the centuries, the region evolved from loosely built settlement cores to a denser populated community, especially after World War II. The original farms and estates, such as the Fondachhof and Hefftergut, still shape the character of Parsch today. The division of the district was influenced by various municipal boundaries, with parts of Parsch becoming part of the City of Salzburg only in the first half of the 20th century. Today, Parsch is a district with approximately 12,000 residents, characterized by its proximity to nature at the foot of the Gaisberg and its historical sites, such as the forest chapel on the Kreuzberg and the modern church on Geißmayrstraße. The blend of urban life and rural charm makes Parsch an attractive place to live.
