History & character
From the Neolithic to Today in Hallwang
Hallwang, now a municipality in the Salzburg-Umgebung district, has a long history that dates back to the Neolithic period. Finds from the Bronze Age and Roman remains indicate continuous settlement. The place was first mentioned as Locus Haldinwanc around the year 1000. Over the centuries, significant buildings arose, such as the Gothic church consecrated in 1197 and Söllheim Castle, whose origins remain unclear. In the 19th century, Hallwang was connected to the Westbahn railway, improving access to the capital city of Salzburg. Today, Hallwang is a quiet municipality with 4,330 inhabitants, characterized by a blend of rural charm and proximity to the city. The landscape is dominated by agricultural land and forests. The municipality offers a pleasant living environment and has become an attractive place to live for those who appreciate the benefits of rural life without sacrificing the conveniences of urban living.
