History & character
From Farmsteads to Modern Suburb
Langwied, a district of Salzburg, was formerly part of the municipality of Hallwang and consisted of scattered farmsteads in a rural area. The place names reflect the agricultural background and the natural characteristics of the region. Until the 20th century, the settlement was sparse, but with the development of key transport routes, such as the Linzer Straße and the Kaiserin Elisabeth-Bahn, growth began. In 1939, Langwied was incorporated into Salzburg and experienced significant changes in the second half of the 20th century. Urban development primarily took place from the 1960s to the 1980s, with the establishment of residential areas and commercial zones. Today, Langwied is predominantly a residential and commercial area, marked by its transport connections and proximity to the city of Salzburg.
