History & character
From the Abbess to a Modern Residential Area
Elixhausen, first mentioned in 1000 as Ebidechsumhusa – House of the Abbess – has a long history closely linked to the Nonnberg Abbey. Originally, most farmers were subject to the abbey's feudal rule. With the first documented mention of the estate of Ursprung in 1122, Elixhausen developed into a significant place in the northern Flachgau. Over the centuries, the name was adjusted several times until it finally became Elixhausen. The Catholic parish, elevated in 1891, now has around 1,900 members, while the Evangelical community of Sachsenheim is supported by about 500 individuals. Today, the community has evolved into a quiet residential area with 3,183 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2026), characterized mainly by agriculture and a natural environment.
