The Hellbrunner Allee, four centuries in the shade
What does the stately south feel like when you take it on foot?
Planted around 1615 as the approach to Hellbrunn pleasure palace, the avenue is among the oldest surviving of its kind in Europe: a dead-straight, car-free hall of trees from Freisaal castle to Hellbrunn. Manor houses like the Frohnburg line the way, meadows spread to either side, and park and trick fountains wait at the end.
Getting there: 11, 22 to Salzburg Freisaalweg, 121 m to the start. Way back from Salzburg Schloss Hellbrunn (25), 145 m.
The route and its data

Every 100 metres of the route, classified from the real data: green spaces, the official noise map, footfall.
About 7 m of climbing and 0 m of descent, between 422 and 429 m above sea level. Sampled every 25 m from open elevation data.
For anyone considering Nonntal, Morzg or the southern edge towards Anif: this is the south showing its face, plenty of green and calm, in exchange for longer trips into the centre.
The avenue is stately, and so are the prices around it. Without a bike or the bus, the trip into the centre gets long, and on fine Sundays half the city promenades here.
What changes along the way
Every 100 metres of the walk, sampled against wohnwahn’s data. The bars run from the start (left) to the finish (right). In short: well shaded by street trees · 90% quiet · very well connected.
Values are 0 to 100 per 250 m cell. Parks and water have no residential cell of their own, so those stretches read the nearest neighbourhood. Source: City of Salzburg tree register, heat model from surface sealing, environmental noise map, footfall and own transit routing.
