Itzling Nord

History & character

From Bergheim to a Salzburg District

Itzling Nord was originally part of the municipality of Bergheim and was incorporated into Salzburg in 1950. The district developed mainly due to the relocation of the municipal slaughterhouse to the Salzach wetlands during World War II, which led to the territorial change. In the post-war years, the area saw a gradual establishment of businesses, contributing to the development of the small-structured slaughterhouse settlement. The Hagenau substation was also built during this time. The surroundings were shaped by the regulation of the Salzach River and the construction of the motorway, which was opened in 1957. Today, Itzling Nord comprises about 120 addresses and is located on the northern outskirts of Salzburg, about 5 kilometers from the city center. Due to the collaborative spatial planning between Salzburg and its surroundings, the district has gained significance and is regarded as an independent district.
