History & character
From Villa Rautena to the Present Community
The first documented mention of Röthis dates back to 842, when the place was referred to as "Villa Rautena near the church of St. Martin." Over the centuries, the spelling of the name varied until the form "Röthis" became established in the late 18th century. The Röthner Schlösschen, one of the oldest estates in Vorarlberg, was built around 1600 and reflects the historical significance of the area. Röthis has belonged to various territories throughout history, including Bavaria and Austria, and has been part of the federal state of Vorarlberg since its founding in 1861. The population remained relatively stable over the centuries, with slight fluctuations in the 19th century. Today, Röthis is located in the Vorarlberg Vorderland at an altitude of 508 meters and is characterized by a rural structure. About twenty percent of the area is used for agriculture, while one-third is forested. The close proximity to seven other municipalities in the Feldkirch district shapes community life and regional networking.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. On the valley floor around Bregenz the southern horizon is low (1 to 8 degrees), but the Pfänder rises in the east: from the city centre it reaches 15.7 degrees and costs morning sun rather than midday sun. On the slopes (Thalbach 17, Fluh up to 25 degrees) and in the south of the market it counts for much more, most of all in Hohenems (29.6 degrees to the south-east) and in Feldkirch-Tisis, where the southern horizon at 22.1 degrees stands above the winter sun of 19.1 degrees.
