History & character
From Edlinger Privilege to Market Town
Poggersdorf, formerly Windisch St. Michael, has a rich history that dates back to the early and high medieval period. The eastern Klagenfurt field was once characterized by an influential class of Carantanian Edlingers who operated between the nobility and the peasantry. In 1850, the area became part of the Maria Saal district and was established as a municipality. In 1973, a part of Hörtendorf was incorporated, and in 2013, Poggersdorf was granted the status of a market town. Today, the municipality lies on the eastern edge of the Klagenfurt field, covering an area of 30.74 square kilometers, with 54 percent used for agriculture. The four cadastral communities of Leibsdorf, Linsenberg, Pubersdorf, and St. Michael ob der Gurk shape the local landscape, while the historical connection to the Slovenian language and culture is evident through bilingual filial churches and the regional dialect.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation. Along the southern edge of the city the Sattnitz ridge rises: the southern horizon measures 11 to 13 degrees there and over 20 on the slope itself, while the winter sun reaches only 19.9 degrees at midday. In Viktring, Stein and southern St. Ruprecht this costs winter sun; on the valley floor (4 to 6 degrees) the terrain does not matter.
