History & character
From Agricultural Village to Summer Resort
Krumpendorf am Wörthersee was first mentioned in 1216 and derives its name from a dialectal term for pasture. Originally, the area was agriculture-focused until the late 19th century when summer tourism began to take hold and transformed the community. The boundaries of the current municipality were established as early as 1573, with the local community being constituted in 1850. In 1987, the village adopted the addition "am Wörther See," which was changed to "am Wörthersee" in 2012. Today, Krumpendorf is one of the smallest municipalities in Carinthia, extending along a narrow strip of the northern shore of Lake Wörthersee. The municipality includes several localities and offers a quiet, nature-oriented living environment shaped by the nearby lake.
