History & character
From the Large Municipality to City Integration
Wölfnitz, located in the northwest of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, became a large municipality in 1955 through the merger with the municipalities of Lendorf and Ponfeld. In 1973, Wölfnitz was incorporated into the city area of Klagenfurt, together with other municipalities. The new Wölfnitz church was consecrated in 1987, while the old parish church of St. Michael no longer exists. Wölfnitz is divided into nine cadastral municipalities and includes several localities such as Großbuch, Hallegg, and Nagra. Today, Wölfnitz is a city district characterized by its surrounding nature, especially the Wölfnitzbach and the nearby mountains, offering its residents a quiet, rural atmosphere in close proximity to the state capital.
