History & character
From Urnfield Culture to Market Town
Nußdorf ob der Traisen is a market town in the district of St. Pölten in Lower Austria. The history of the place dates back to the Urnfield period, as evidenced by the finds of a large burial site in Franzhausen, which includes over 400 graves and numerous valuable artifacts. Nußdorf was first mentioned in 1083 in a document from the Göttweig Abbey. In the Middle Ages, the place was the seat of a lordship, which was dissolved in 1848. In 1850, the municipalities of Franzhausen, Nußdorf, and Reichersdorf were established, and in 1866, the municipalities voluntarily united. In 1977, Nußdorf ob der Traisen was granted market status. Today, the municipality is located in the Mostviertel and is surrounded by wooded heights, giving it a rural character. The land use shows a mix of agricultural land and forest, shaping the natural environment.

How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
