Renting out parking space carries the full 20 per cent VAT in Austria, while residential rent is taxed at 10 per cent (WKO). On a space around 85 euros that is a 17 euro difference. Ask whether the figure quoted includes VAT.
A space 300 metres away but across a main road is further in daily life than one 500 metres straight ahead. Every listing page shows the location in its neighbourhood, in walking minutes rather than straight-line distance.
The short-stay charge is 50 cents per commenced half hour, and the maximum stay is three hours; at the Gewerkschaftsparkplatz it is 90 minutes. Charges apply Monday to Friday from 8 am to noon and from 1 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to noon. That lunchtime break is a St. Pölten peculiarity: between noon and 1 pm you park free, and no other city we cover does this. Residents of the inner city can get a Bewohnerparkkarte, which lets them park without a ticket; the city’s short-stay page does not state the annual fee, so ask the traffic office. The zone is monitored by a private contractor on behalf of the city, so fines do not become rarer just because no police officer is in sight.
