History & character
From Frankish Castle to Town Community
Wilhelmsburg is a town community in the Mostviertel, first mentioned in 1083 under the name Willehalmspurch. Settlement in the area possibly dates back to the 9th century when a Frankish nobleman founded a castle here. Over the centuries, Wilhelmsburg was shaped by various events, including the construction of the first church in the 10th century, the consecration of the Marienkapelle in 1320, and the establishment of a ring wall that protected the town during the Turkish sieges in the 16th century. Industrialization began in 1830 with the opening of a cotton spinning mill, leading to an increase in population and economic development. In 1959, Wilhelmsburg was granted town status and established itself as an independent community. Today, Wilhelmsburg is a quiet municipality characterized by its historical development and proximity to the city of St. Pölten.

How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
