History & character
From Settlement to Modern Community
St. Georgen am Steinfelde is a place with a rich history dating back to the 1st century BC, as evidenced by archaeological finds. Over the centuries, the area developed from an agricultural settlement, where residents worked mainly as farmers and winegrowers, into an independent municipality in 1848. The Georg Church, first mentioned in 1248, has been destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history, most recently in baroque style in 1749. St. Georgen experienced numerous historical upheavals, including the Turkish sieges and the destruction during both World Wars, which significantly shaped the area's development. In 1971, St. Georgen was incorporated into the city of St. Pölten against the will of the population.
Today, St. Georgen am Steinfelde is a district of St. Pölten that boasts good infrastructure. There is a primary school, a secondary school, and special schools, as well as two kindergartens. The volunteer fire department and the Samaritan association ensure the safety and care of residents. The former agricultural character is still palpable, while the area is increasingly evolving into a residential neighborhood with various recreational opportunities.

How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
