History & character
From Roman Military Post to Town Municipality
Traismauer has a long history that dates back to Roman times. The area was once part of the province of Noricum and housed a Roman cavalry fort, the foundations of which can be found in the present town center. The place was first mentioned in a document in 799 and developed in the Middle Ages into an important center of the Carolingian county between the Enns and the Wienerwald. Its strategic location led to multiple fortifications over the centuries to protect against attacks. In 1958, the town was finally granted town status.
Today, Traismauer presents itself as a town municipality with 6529 inhabitants, located in the picturesque Traisental. The geographical location, with agricultural land, forests, and vineyards, shapes the town's image. The historical substance, such as the parish church and the remnants of the Roman fortifications, are still visible witnesses to its eventful past.

How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
