History & character
From Niederpervens to Unterperfuss
Unterperfuss is a small municipality in the Innsbruck-Land district, first documented in 1312 as 'Niederpervens' in the Inntaler tax book. The current name 'Unterperfuss' appears in a document from 1453. In 1625, the municipality belonged to the tax community association of Oberperfuss together with Ranggen. A chapel dedicated to St. Catherine is mentioned in 1648, and the late Baroque reconstruction of the filial church took place in 1761. In 1780, Unterperfuss became an independent tax municipality with eleven listed houses, ten of which were agricultural operations. Politically, the area was still part of Oberperfuss in 1840, consisting of 12 houses and 107 residents. Parish provision and the school were located in Kematen. Today, Unterperfuss is a quiet municipality with 248 residents, characterized by rural charm and a close-to-nature environment.
