History & character
From Prehistory to Market Town
Kapelln, also known as Kapelln an der Perschling, is a market municipality in the district of St. Pölten in Lower Austria. The settlement of the area dates back to the Neolithic period, as evidenced by finds in the vicinity. During the Roman occupation, the area was part of the province of Noricum and was located along an important civil road. In the 11th century, the parish of Kapelln was established by the Diocese of Passau. The current municipality was formed in 1854 through the merger of several cadastral communities. Kapelln was elevated to market municipality in 1983. In 1938, various craft businesses and service providers were established here, indicating a vibrant community. Today, the municipality encompasses 15 localities and offers a rural environment characterized by agricultural use and forested areas.
