From the Hilmteich through the Leechwald to the university
How much forest can a university quarter hold without turning suburban?
The Leechwald is Graz’s home forest in the north-east: old beech stands, wide paths, and at its edge the Hilmteich pond with its rowing boats. The walk starts at the water, dips into the forest and emerges at the university quarter, where period houses, students and villas share the same streets.
Getting there: 58, E1, 41 to Graz Hilmteich/Botanischer Garten, 216 m to the start. Way back from Graz Universität (63, 41, 39), 128 m.
