From the Urnfield Period to a Modern Community
Kalsdorf bei Graz is a market town with a long history dating back to the Urnfield period. Archaeological finds attest to settlement during this time, while a Roman settlement has been identified in the northwest of the municipality. The first documented mention of Kalsdorf dates back to 1179 when the village was transferred to the Stift Rein. For centuries, Kalsdorf belonged to this monastery, shaping its economic development. Over the centuries, the region has witnessed numerous historical upheavals, including the migration of Slavs and the rule of the Bavarians. Today, Kalsdorf bei Graz is a dynamic community with 9,265 inhabitants, ranking among the fastest-growing and economically strongest municipalities in Styria.
