History & character
From Market Town to Urban Suburb
Gössendorf is a market municipality in the Graz field located south of Graz. The municipality was elevated to market municipality on June 1, 2004. In the region, Gössendorf has strongly connected with the surrounding municipalities and is part of the suburban area of the capital Graz. Its geographical location along the Mur and the flow of the Raababach shape the municipality's landscape. Today, Gössendorf has 4313 inhabitants and includes the localities of Dörfla, Gössendorf, and Thondorf. The proximity to Graz, along with infrastructural developments such as the run-of-river power plant on the Mur, which was put into operation in 2012, gives the municipality a modern character and makes it an attractive place to live.
