History & character
From Manorial Estates to Market Town
Raaba-Grambach has been a market municipality in the Graz-Umgebung district since 2015. This municipality was formed by the merger of the previously independent communities of Raaba and Grambach, which were established as autonomous entities in 1850. Grambach was already mentioned in the records of the Graz Marshal's Office in 1265 and belonged to various manorial estates until 1848. The history of both places is characterized by changing affiliations, including being part of the British occupation zone after World War II. In 2000, Raaba was elevated to market municipality, marking another step in its development. Today, Raaba-Grambach is a quiet and picturesque community, distinguished by its rural surroundings and proximity to the city of Graz.
