History & character
From Tremendorf to St. Peter
St. Peter, originally known as Tremendorf, has its roots in the mid-11th century. The name changed over time, and the first written record of a church dates back to the 13th century. For centuries, St. Peter was an agricultural village and experienced economic growth in the 19th century with the establishment of brick factories. In 1938, St. Peter was incorporated into the city of Graz, leading to intensive construction activities that significantly altered its village character. After World War II, the brick industry thrived until the late 1960s when the last brickworks closed.
Today, St. Peter is a popular residential area with a variety of housing projects. Its good connection to the city center via tram line 6 and several bus lines makes the district attractive. At the same time, the district is characterized by natural areas such as the Graz Urwald and the Lustbühel nature reserve, providing a pleasant balance to the urban environment.
