History & character
Settlement on the Hill and Its Development
Pichling is a district of Linz, named after a geographical feature first documented in 1222 as Puhel. The name derives from the Middle High German word for hill and designates a settlement on the hill. Until the establishment of the Pichling district on January 1, 2014, the area belonged to the Ebelsberg district. The geographical location is characterized by its proximity to the Traun River in the northwest and the Danube River in the northeast. The Weikerl Lakes are located to the north, while the Pichlinger Lake lies to the south. Today, Pichling features a planned settlement called Solar City, which complements the modern infrastructure of the district. The parish church of Pichling is a notable building that contributes to the identity of the district.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
