History & character

From Kleinmünchen to Auwiesen

Kleinmünchen-Auwiesen is a district of Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, formed in 2014 from the former statistical districts of Kleinmünchen, Scharlinz, and Schörgenhub. The district is located in the southern part of Linz, bordered by the Salzburger Straße, the Mühlkreis Autobahn, the Traun River, and the Westbahn railway. A significant recreational area is the Wasserwald, a park covering about 1.5 km² with woodland and meadow areas.

The character of Kleinmünchen-Auwiesen is shaped by various listed buildings, including the Baumwollspinnerei Rädler and the Grillmayr Schlößl. The Pfarrkirche Kleinmünchen, built in 1905/06, and the school and community center from the 19th century reflect the historical development of the district. The Wiener Straße is the most important traffic route, while the Dürerstraße commemorates Albrecht Dürer's stay in Linz.

Real building heights (OpenStreetMap footprints with heights from the BEV laser scan), sun hours and shadows from sun position and geometry. How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
