History & character
From Roman Road to Market Town
Prinzersdorf has a long history that dates back to Roman times. A road led from St. Pölten through Gerersdorf to Uttendorf, crossing the Pielach. The first documented mention of the place dates back to 1058. Originally, Prinzersdorf was likely founded around 800 AD by Slavs. Over the centuries, the village developed, despite repeated plundering by Turkish troops in the 16th century, into a modest community with a variety of craftsmen and farmers. Economic development accelerated in the 19th century with the construction of the Kaiser Elisabeth West Railway, leading to an influx of workers. In 1950, Prinzersdorf became independent from Gerersdorf and received market rights in 1969. Today, Prinzersdorf is a quiet market town in the Mostviertel, characterized by its proximity to nature and a manageable population size.

How much of it reaches you also depends on orientation and windows. Terrain is included, from the official elevation model out to 12 km: a mountain to the south takes the winter sun just as the house opposite does. Where the sun only grazes a ridge, the figure remains an approximation.
