Official city hiking trail 8
City hiking trail 8: Sophienalpe
Vienna Woods meadows and country inns high above Hütteldorf.
Out to the Sophienalpe: wide Vienna Woods meadows, quiet forest roads and country inns of a kind you would otherwise find far outside the city. The most alpine impression Vienna has to offer, yet reachable by bus.
Getting there: 450 to Wien Kasgraben, 18 m to the trailhead. Loop trail: you finish where you started.
The official route and its data

About 300 m of climbing and 304 m of descent, between 246 and 488 m above sea level. Sampled every 25 m from open elevation data; walking time uses the standard hiking formula (4 km/h plus 300 m of climb per hour).
For meadow lovers and families with stamina: lots of open green, lots of space, hardly any traffic the whole way.
The trail sits on the far western edge: getting there takes a while and the bus is not frequent. Check departure times beforehand.
What changes along the way
Every 200 metres of the trail, sampled against wohnwahn’s data. The curves run from the start (left) to the finish (right). In short: 74% green along the built-up stretches · 93% quiet · 300 m of climbing.
Values are 0 to 100 per 250 m residential cell. Forest and fields have no cells, so the profile honestly pauses there; curves only appear once they cover at least half the trail. Source: official heat map, environmental noise map, green-space proximity, footfall and own transit routing.
