History & character
From Old Hietzing to Modern Penzing
Penzing is the 14th district of Vienna and consists of the areas Penzing, Breitensee, Baumgarten, Hütteldorf, and Hadersdorf-Weidlingau. The area was incorporated into the city of Vienna on January 1, 1892, initially forming the 13th district, known as Hietzing. In 1938, this district was divided, resulting in Penzing becoming an independent district. Over the following decades, the district boundaries remained largely unchanged, with minor adjustments occurring in the 1990s. The district is home to notable buildings such as the Church at Steinhof, the Otto Wagner Villa I, and the Technical Museum Vienna. Today, Penzing presents itself as a vibrant district characterized by its historical development and proximity to nature.
