History & character
From Vineyard to Noble Residential District
Hietzing is the 13th district of Vienna and has a long history dating back to 1130. The name Hietzing derives from "Hiezo" and was originally an emerging wine-growing village. After the destruction caused by the Turkish sieges, the area recovered and developed, particularly due to the construction of Schönbrunn Palace, into a popular residential area for nobility and high officials. The proximity to the imperial court led to strong construction activity that continues to shape Hietzing's image today. In the 19th century, many new residential houses were built, inhabited by affluent Viennese.
Today, Hietzing is a quiet and noble district characterized by its proximity to the Vienna Woods and the Schönbrunn Palace park. The former villages that make up the district are harmoniously connected and offer a high quality of life. Hietzing combines historical elements with modern residential needs and is known for its idyllic living conditions.
