Hacking

History & character

From Suburb to Urban Oasis Hacking

Hacking was first mentioned in 1156 as Hacingen and developed on the slopes of the Hackinger Berg below the Hackinger Castle. In 1892, Hacking was incorporated into the 13th district of Vienna, Hietzing. The district boundary drawn in 1938 split Hacking into two parts, with one part becoming part of the 14th district, Penzing. The development of the district increased due to the construction of the Westbahn and the connection to the Hütteldorf train station in the 19th century, which is reflected in the Gründerzeit villas and the Sanatorium Hacking. The central part of Hacking is defined as a building protection zone and shapes the local landscape.
