Speising: Ein ruhiges Grätzl in Wien

Speising, a part of the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna, was first mentioned in a document in 1365. At that time, the locality belonged to the estates granted by Duke Rudolf IV to the Vienna Provostry of St. Stephen. During the first Turkish siege in 1529, the population particularly suffered from the effects of war. In 1892, Speising was incorporated into the city of Vienna. In the eastern part of the district, the route of a former Roman aqueduct runs underground, with remnants documented archaeologically. Today, the village core shows a mix of older, originally rural houses and newer buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries. After incorporation, Speising experienced a building boom, resulting in many green spaces and garden houses. The area is characterized by hospitals and public transport connections, such as the S-Bahn line S80, which connects Speising to Vienna Central Station. Today, the district is marked by both its historical depth and modern infrastructure.
