History & character
From Utendorf to Hütteldorf in the 14th District
Hütteldorf was founded in the 11th century and was first mentioned as Utendorf in 1170. The name derives from the noble family of the Utendorfers. The old town center was located between Rosenbach and Halterbach. As early as 1356, Hütteldorf had its own parish. The Hütteldorfer mill, which received brewing rights in 1599, led to the establishment of the Hütteldorfer brewery. The Satzberg also serves as a reminder of the region's former wine culture. The development of the village was long hindered by Turkish wars and the plague. The current cemetery was first used in 1811. In 1891, Hütteldorf was incorporated into the city of Vienna. After the annexation in 1938, the area was assigned to the 14th district, Penzing, and remained part of this district after World War II. Hütteldorf was part of the French sector of the city from 1945 to 1955. Today, Hütteldorf is a quiet neighborhood that blends historical roots with modern living.
