Water
Around the Alte Donau
What is it like to live with a lido on your doorstep?
Still water, jetties, sailing boats: the Alte Donau is Vienna’s summer living room, and if you live here, the lido is on your doorstep. The walk follows the shore from the metro station to the legendary Gänsehäufel, past lidos, boathouses and reeds.
Getting there: 20B to Wien Strandbad Alte Donau, 127 m to the start. Way back from Wien Schödlbergergasse (92A), 186 m.

Every 100 metres of the route, classified from the real data: green spaces, the official noise map, footfall.
About 6 m of climbing and 6 m of descent, between 158 and 162 m above sea level. Sampled every 25 m from open elevation data.
For water people and families: a swim after work, a boat in the evening, the U1 into town. In winter you have to like the openness and the silence.
In summer the lidos and shores are packed and lively, in winter it is quiet and half-deserted. The centre is further than from the inner districts.
What changes along the way
Every 100 metres of the walk, sampled against wohnwahn’s data. The bars run from the start (left) to the finish (right). In short: 50% of the way feels green · well shaded by street trees · along open water · 88% quiet.
Values are 0 to 100 per 250 m cell. Parks and water have no residential cell of their own, so those stretches read the nearest neighbourhood. Source: Vienna tree register, official heat map, environmental noise map, footfall and own transit routing.
